Faculty of Engineering Sciences

We generate knowledge to produce artifacts, and we develop artifacts to advance our knowledge.

There are 862 students enrolled in the faculty's study programs (winter semester 23/24), 238 students started their studies in these programs in the academic year of 2023.

The Faculty of Engineering Sciences confers the degrees of a doctor of engineering (Dr.-Ing.) or a doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.), depending on the research focus of the doctoral thesis and subject to approval by the doctoral committee.

The research topics of the faculty are broad. Examples include biogenic packaging technologies for mRNA vaccines, artificial cells as transport systems in the body, and a new fiber-like battery technology that conducts electricity more efficiently and allows higher current levels. The interaction of molecular life sciences, biophysics and biochemistry as well as scientific computing, machine learning and novel hardware concepts results in engineering that promotes translation from the natural sciences into medicine and medical technology as well as transfer into industrial applications.
