Quality management

Quality management at the university

By establishing the heiQUALITY QM system, Heidelberg University is securing its medium and long-term success in the central university performance areas - studies and teaching, research and the promotion of early career researchers, as well as services and administration - and further developing their quality.  Systematic quality assurance and development in the areas of study and teaching have created the basis for the independent evaluation and accreditation of study programs. The primary goal is for the faculties and subjects to

  • identify and further develop the strengths of their degree programs,
  • recognize potential for improvement and implement suitable measures to further develop their degree programmes accordingly,
  • review and document the success of their quality assurance and quality development measures over time.

Quality management at the Faculty

Ensuring and continuously developing the quality of teaching is a primary goal of the Faculty of Engineering.  The active participation of all staff involved in teaching and learning as well as students is essential for successful quality development. In the Faculty and its institutes, all status groups are involved in the quality assurance and quality development processes (QM processes) as well as in the measures for the further development of quality in studies and teaching. This applies in particular to the deans of studies, the study commissions and the faculty's quality management officer.

Q+Ampel procedure

The achievement of qualification goals and the quality of studies and teaching are assessed within the framework of heiQUALITY using the Q+Ampel procedure. The procedure is embedded in a continuous screening, monitoring and evaluation system, within the framework of which quality assurance and the (re-)accreditation of study programs take place. The cycle of a Q+Ampel procedure is usually eight years.

Since the system accreditation of Heidelberg University, the faculty's degree programs have undergone the accreditation process once (cycle 1) or several times (cycles 2, 3 ...) as part of the Q+Ampel procedure and have been accredited or re-accredited. The results of the accreditation procedures carried out as part of heiQUALITY are summarized for each degree programme in an accreditation report and published on this page.

Ampel

Teaching evaluations

Regular teaching evaluations are an important tool for quality assurance and development. Course surveys are carried out in accordance with Heidelberg University's evaluation regulations. The subjects are supported by the heiQUALITY office in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of course surveys.

All subjects in the faculty evaluate their entire range of courses every three semesters. The results are usually discussed with the students in the courses themselves and also in the study commissions.

Studierende

QM Representative

The QM Representative of the Faculty coordinates quality assurance and development in the subjects on behalf of the Deans of Studies and is involved in cross-disciplinary and cross-faculty quality assurance and development measures.

In cooperation with the heiQUALITY office, she coordinates the faculty's Q+Ampel procedures and supports the deans of studies in all matters relating to studies and teaching (especially in the processing of admission regulations, study and examination regulations for the subjects and module handbooks).
